New Wave of Wireless Connectivity

Wireless technology has come a long way in a short period of time. Initially limited to your cell phone, office or home network, providers have expanded to cover whole cities and outlying regions. Rural areas are no longer inhibited by phone, cable or expensive satellite connections. EVDO and HSDPA have opened a doorway into the lives and territories of even the most remote user.
Long Island State has recently announced its intentions to go wireless right across the State. San Francisco and Toronto are other major cities looking to expand network connectivity. You don’t have to look far to see the wireless wave expanding territory.

So what is EVDO? and HSDPA?

Evolution Data Optimized or EVDO is a wireless radio broadband data access provided to you by many CDMA mobile phone providers. Bell, Sprint, Verizon and Telus are some of the larger carriers using EVDO. High-Speed Downlink Packet Access or HSDPA is the same type of wireless access, only provided to you on the WSDMA (3G) platform. Carriers of HSDPA include Cingular and Rogers. That’s enough information for your search engines if you’re interested in researching the particulars.

Is your area connected?

Wherever you are, both technologies provide high-speed data or Internet connectivity on your cell phone, mobile device or air card connected to your laptop or TabletPC. There is no need for a wireless ‘hotspot’. You are the hotspot.

These technologies have many advantages over Wi-fi:
  • Always on access with seamless roaming as you travel
  • You are not limited to a 300 ft. radius of the signal source
  • Provide service outside of cable and DSL areas
  • Connected anytime, anywhere!
Government and Security agencies, Realtors, Sales professionals, Consultants, anyone who is mobile and frequently away from their desks can communicate. Ideal when you need to be connected to the Office, business applications, Internet or email. Combined with VPN you can ensure data is not be intercepted.
What you choose may depend on where you are. If this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to let you forge into the future or just because you’re a gadget guy, this wave will enable many possibilities. I would recommend that you research coverage areas, provider contracts and do your due diligence.

Don’t be surprised to see even more changes as the competition to deliver T.V. and online games to your cell phones and mobile devices heats up!
